Tweeddale Primary School

Headteacher’s Welcome

Headteacher Jonathan Walters in the playground with some of the Tweeddale pupils.

I am delighted to welcome you to the Tweeddale Primary School website.

We are a happy, nurturing and ambitious school located in the London Borough of Sutton. In line with our school motto of 'Aspire and Achieve', we have a passion to see every child flourish and succeed in every area of their lives: academically, socially, emotionally and physically. Our vision is to create a safe, nurturing and inclusive school community where every child achieves their full potential. We have a clear set of six values which underpin our vision, making up the word ASPIRE: Ambitious, Safe, Positive, Inclusive, Respectful and Enthusiastic.

I am honoured to lead a school with an outstanding team of dedicated and experienced staff who live out these values every single day.  We are proud of our 'Good' rating in all areas from Ofsted (July 2024) and are excited for the future.  Our school is well-resourced, with a nursery, swimming pool, dedicated sports hall and spacious school site.

I hope we will be able to welcome you soon, so you can see first hand everything that we have to offer.

History

Tweeddale is located at the heart of the St. Helier Estate. It is named after Lady St. Helier who was a London County Councillor and Alderman – her special interest being the improvement of conditions for the poor. The estate was designed as a garden estate incorporating parks and open spaces, and public facilities. Tweeddale is built on land once owned by the Miller family who were nurserymen and market gardeners. They grew lavender, watercress and herbs.

In 2003, the infants and junior schools merged to become a primary school with nursery provision. The merged school has been based on the Tweeddale Road site since then and the infants' school was demolished to make way for housing.
